Happy Friday!

The shop was really slow this week, so I tried really hard to work on something I dread sooo much…..


Oh how I dislike doing them.

Having my own business doesn’t help either. So many different complicated expenses and incomes to gather and organize and as much as I try hard to keep them organized through out the year, it seems like it’s never ending!

I’m still nowhere close to being done (I just organized income and expenses) but I’m proud of my self for spending probably a total of 20 hours this week for it!


The motivation behind why I’m starting this early  (yes, it’s super early for me) was because we are looking into buying a home.

We figured we should know what our income is first before we can talk to a lender.


BUT!  There was a catch….


After all these hours of organizing them to have a better idea of my part of the income, we found out that my income doesn’t count at all because for it to count I have to have been in business for two years and have a proof of tax documents!!  NOOO! We had no idea!

Home buying is so difficult. So many things to learn – It’s like learning a new language!


On the bright side, I’m glad I at least got to get some work done for taxes because I KNOW I wouldn’t even want to touch it yet!

A year in review..

I know.. it’s really late for me to be posting this kind of entry, but I just HAVE to do it. I need to have some kind of reflection, and a closure to the year so I have something to go off of this year.

December was a crazy month for us. We went to Japan (Josh’s first time), and then we came back for a few days, then traveled to Utah to see the in-laws, and somehow managed to keep my shop open with limited items. Both experiences were amazing, and I will write more later in another post.

2013 was a year of growth for BluefinWorks. I opened my shop in August, 2012 but even by January, I was not making enough sales to have a good prospect for the year. I wasn’t sure if what I’m doing was working, or if it will ever pick up. In fact, it was slowing down if anything because my items are all event decor etc., so Holidays are actually the slow season for me- A fact I wasn’t sure of back then.

Start up costs were taking a toll on finances, to the point that I hesitated buying fruits or anything that I don’t need to survive! I was full of uncertainty, and doubts about my shop. With encouragements from family, friends, and my lovely customers,  I kept going,  increasing the number of items offered, and slowly but surely the sales started to come in. Every customer that made a purchase from my shop gave me courage and assurance. Soon, I knew I was going the right way, and was realizing my shop’s identity for the first time.

By the time event season rolled in, I was really busy with orders, and I had a blast working with  AMAZING people to create their special events with them. I absolutely loved every moment of it, and I feel very blessed to have met many of them, who have been an extreme pleasure to work with, and just great people overall!

In November, as if to reassure me, my christmas trees luminaries were featured on the December issue of InStyle Magazine, and our apartment quickly because a Santa’s workshop!!!    It was an amazing feeling to see my item featured on a national magazine!!! I got a taste of what my shop could be like in the future, and I knew I wanted to continue what I do in 2014. instyle-page

I came a long way in 2013, but I know I still have lots to learn. I want to continue to grow this year, and achieve many more things, while still remembering the people that got me here.

I’m thankful for everything, everyone in my life, and my amazing customers.
